Pedro Gómez-Egaña: Domain of Things and Other Histories
"Domain of things and other histories" is a 45 minute long performance by Bergen-based visual/performance artist Pedro Gómez-Egaña.
In this work the space of kunstakademiet's largest exhibition room has been transformed to give the audience a special point of view of a sculptural structure that reproduces an underground and aboveground.
This piece is like chaos in slow motion: it resonates with the artist's renowned interest in working with disasters and states of alarm (recently by staging a truck that pierces the facade of Hordaland Kunstsenter, his slowly falling dinosaur at Bergen Kunsthall in 2008, and recent performances, videos and installations of suspended scenarios and repeating tragedies at 3,14, Brussels and Marrakech biennials), and it does so in a contemplative way. We simply don't know where the catastrophe is, but we know it is happening. A series of subtle physical, mechanic and light events add up to a sense of time being overlapped, stretched and suspended in a way that is both haunting and beautiful.
The performance is a part of Oktoberdans 2010, and is supported by Bergen Kommune and the Norwegian Artistic Research Fellowships Programme.
